JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital is exploring cooperation with the Chinese government in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and plans to establish a joint AI innovation center in the ASEAN region.
In his meeting with the Secretary of the Nanning City Party, Guangxi, China Province, Nong Shengwen, the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Meutya Hafid, explained how China's cooperation with Indonesia had a huge impact.
Cooperation in the field of digital infrastructure between Indonesia and China is the largest among cooperation and other countries. This has supported connectivity to remote parts of Indonesia through 4G and 5G technology," said Meutya.
To that end, Meutya expressed interest in the Indonesian government to expand cooperation in the AI sector, with Kota Nanning as an inspiration thanks to its success in becoming an AI-based smart city center.
According to him, in addition to learning from the experiences of the city of Nanning, the great potential of digital startups and digital talent in the city of Nanning can be an inspiration for the development of digital ecosystems in Indonesia.
"We are open to working with various countries, including China, in developing AI technology. Our target is to create 9 million digital talents with high capabilities in the AI sector by 2030," he added.

Meanwhile, Nong Shengwen welcomed this invitation to cooperate, and invited Indonesian companies to work together in the development of AI technology in Nanning.
