JAKARTA - Google continues to make policy changes that are in line with the new political direction in Washington. After US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that reduced or removed the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program, Google now appears to be expanding the move to the Respondible AI and Human Centered Technology (RAI-HCT) team.
RAI-HCT is a team researching the safe and fair implementation of AI. Previously, Google used terms such as "arranged community," "different," or "unrepresented groups" in its mission. However, now the term has been removed from the team's official website.
Instead, Google opted for a more general language, such as "various," "many," or "all" to describe its approach to responsible AI.
Google has changed its DEI policy over the past few weeks. In February, the company defended this move in front of its employees. Melonie Parker, Google's former head of diversity, stated that this change was necessary for the company to adapt to the new law.

This decision was also influenced by the fact that Google has a significant government contract. Facing pressure from Trump's administration, the company seems to be trying to avoid political conflicts that could harm its business.
Google isn't the only tech giant to reduce DEI's initiative. Amazon, Meta, and OpenAI have also taken similar steps, including removing inclusive policies from their recruitment pages.
The decision marks a major shift in the tech industry, which has previously sought to highlight diversity and inclusion as part of AI's innovation and ethics.
