JAKARTA YouTube has made new rules regarding online gambling invitations (judol) on its platform. Starting in mid-March, all creators are prohibited from directing users to websites or gambling applications.

This means that creators should not promote judol, invite users to download judol applications, and include judol links in the content they create. This rule is part of Google's 'illegal goods or services' policy.

"As part of YouTube's ongoing efforts to protect viewers from potentially harmful content, we amplify our current policy regarding online gambling content, which takes effect from March 19," YouTube said on Wednesday, March 5.

YouTube insists that creators should not use any method to promote gambling. Whether it's a URL, a link in the form of images or text, an invitation in verbal form, or even just displaying the logo in the videos they make.

"Please note that content that promises guaranteed profits can be removed regardless of whether the online gambling site or application has been approved by Google," added YouTube.

Even so, YouTube still allows content that offends judol without violating Community Guidelines, for example describing casino applications without promotional intent. Some content is still permitted, but with stricter rules.

The audience will also be limited to protect users who are still underage. YouTube will not display gambling content to users' accounts under the age of 18.

"We know this update can affect creators who focus on online gambling content such as game and casino apps, but we believe this change is an important step in protecting our community," explained YouTube.
