JAKARTA - The Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ) proposed an increase in the Transjakarta service rate of Rp5,000 and Transjabodetabek Rp10,000. The proposal was conveyed by the Chairman of the DTKJ Sugiharjo after being confirmed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung as the Chairman of the DTKJ for the period 2026-2029.

According to him, tariff simplification is needed so that the public transportation system is easier for the public to understand while strengthening service integration.

"What we are proposing now is a tariff within the Jakarta area of Rp5,000. Meanwhile, Transjabodetabek becomes Rp10,000," said Sugiharjo at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Friday, July 3.

Sugiharjo explained that the single rate of Rp5,000 will eliminate the cost differences that have emerged when passengers switch from BRT services to non-BRT. With this scheme, all TransJakarta services, from BRT, non-BRT to Microtrans, can be used in one system with the same tariff.

DTKJ also proposed that the tariff group, which currently consists of six to seven categories, be reduced to only two categories. Simplification is considered to make it easier for the public to understand the public transportation tariff system.

Although proposing a tariff adjustment, DTKJ considers that this policy must be accompanied by an increase in service quality. Intermodal integration, shorter waiting time, and travel comfort are conditions for the public to be willing to switch from private vehicles to public transportation.

"Tariffs can be adjusted, but must be balanced with an increase in service quality. That's what we propose," said Sugiharjo.

In addition to the single tariff, DTKJ also proposes the application of a subscription tariff for Transjakarta customers. The scheme is intended to provide incentives to users who routinely use public transportation every day.

According to Sugiharjo, if the normal tariff is set at Rp5,000 per trip, workers who travel back and forth for 25 working days will spend around Rp250 thousand every month. Therefore, DTKJ proposes a monthly subscription package of Rp200 thousand or about 20 percent cheaper.

"If the normal tariff is Rp5,000 to go and Rp5,000 to return, it's around Rp250 thousand a month. Well, if you use the subscription tariff, we propose a 20 percent discount so that you only have to pay Rp200 thousand," he said.

DTKJ is also preparing a proposal for a subscription package with a more flexible duration, such as one week and two weeks. This scheme is intended for people who do not use public transportation every day, including tourists.

"We will also propose a weekly or biweekly subscription rate. There will still be discounts, although it is likely not as large as the monthly package. The amount will still be discussed," said Sugiharjo.

Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung confirmed 17 members of the DTKJ for the period 2026-2029. The former Secretary General of the Ministry of Transportation was entrusted to lead the council which is tasked with providing recommendations for transportation policies to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

Pramono hopes that the DTKJ will be able to accelerate the integration of public transportation as well as improve the quality of services so that more people will switch to using public transportation.
