JAKARTA - WeWork reportedly started accepting cryptocurrency payments on its balance sheet. The company from the United States (US) received support from a giant company led by Masayoshi Son, namely Softbank.
On Tuesday April 20, WeWork announced that the company was allowing cryptocurrency to be used as a form of payment.
"WeWork has partnered with crypto payment service platform BitPay to accept digital currency payments," WeWork said as quoted by Cointelegraph, Wednesday, April 21.
The startup, led by Sandeep Lakhmi Mathrani, will reportedly be able to accept payments using a number of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), USD Coin (USDC), Ethereum (ETH), and Paxos (PAX).
"This move broadens the options by adding crypto assets as a form of payment that makes sense," said Sandeep, CEO of WeWork.
Going forward, WeWork will be able to pay landlords and partners using cryptocurrency. In this case, WeWork has collaborated with a cryptocurrency trading platform that has taken the floor on the US stock exchange, namely Coinbase.
In addition, Coinbase is also rumored to be the first tenant to pay for the company that Sandeep leads using crypto money.
"When we think about the workplace and business in the future, we have to consider crypto assets as a central part of that discussion," SoftBank told WeWork.
Previously, a number of major US companies and banks accepted cryptocurrency payments. These include VISA, MasterCard, PayPal, Tesla, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.
