JAKARTA - China has again recorded major steps in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics with the presence of Xiaotie', the country's first humanoid passenger service robot in the rail system. Developed by China Railway Xian Bureau Co., Ltd., Xiaotie is officially on duty at Xi'an Railway Station. This innovative presence marks a new era in travel services, especially when it debuted to coincide with the spring Festival homecoming, one of China's busiest travel seasons.
Standing 1.5 meters high, Xiaotie is designed to resemble a Q-version train officer, characteristic of short hair, big eyes, and train uniform. His friendly appearance is equipped with high mobility, where Xiaotie moves on a balance bike. The robot offers consulting services, guidance, and navigation for passengers, making it a very helpful travel companion.
Supported by large model AI technology, Xiaotie can smoothly interact with passengers and use tablets to display synchronous answers. In fact, these robots can take passengers to their destination inside the station.
Xiaotie operates every day from 08.00 to 20.00, providing consistent support for travelers. As the battery power runs out, Xiaotie is automatically looking for a charging station, showing a tremendous level of independence.
Going forward, Xiaotie is planned to be placed at ticket gates to help with tasks such as ticket inspections, which will further enhance its role in the rail system. The patented Xiaotie design ensures its uniqueness in this area.

Xiaotie's launch reflects China's broad efforts in integrating AI and robotics into various sectors. In the field of construction, for example, AI-backed builders have revolutionized high-speed rail development by accelerating work time, improving safety, and optimizing resources.
This advancement places China as a global leader in AI-based infrastructure projects. In addition, the development of other humanoid robots such as the SE01 made by Engine AI, which is able to walk, squat, and move objects, further strengthens China's position in the robotics world. This robot even received praise from Nvidia scientist Jim Fan for its extraordinary capabilities.
Currently, Xiaotie is the only humanoid passenger service robot in China's rail system, a significant symbol of technological achievement. Its presence not only improves passenger experience, but also proves China's commitment to innovation.
With AI's growing progress, robots like Xiaotie are expected to soon become an integral part of the travel sector, paving the way for a smarter and more efficient future.
