JAKARTA Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are rumored to be moving their Mexican factory to the US. This plan comes as US President Donald Trump wants to make a new policy.
Trump plans to impose import duties in Canada and Mexico by 25 percent as of February 1. Although this rule is still under consideration, Samsung and LG immediately consider moving factories to other regions.
According to Korean media Economic Daily, unnamed sources stated that Samsung would move production of drying devices from factories in Mexico. If possible, the production will be moved to South Carolina.
Meanwhile, LG plans to move the production of refrigerators from its Mexican factory to Tennessee. The factory produces other household necessities, such as washing machines and dryers.

When asked about the factory's planned transfer, Samsung said that they were still monitoring the situation. If Trump has formalized the rules, they will respond to them flexibly or move production easily.
This can be done because Samsung has many product factories in the world. If one location is threatened with an increase in import costs, Samsung can move it elsewhere. On the other hand, LG has almost the same response to the situation.
The South Korean-based company will respond to market changes by adjusting the system and location of production. In other words, they will move production if market changes are burdensome to company spending.
