Meta Will Build An Underwater Cable Of 40 Thousand Kilometers

JAKARTA Meta, the company that oversees Instagram and Facebook, plans to build an optical fiber submarine cable. This new cable network was developed for personal Meta needs around the world.

According to a TechCrunch report, this undersea cable construction project costs 10 billion US dollars (Rp159 trillion). Reportedly, this technology company will make fiber optic cables more than 40,000 kilometers worldwide.

During cable construction, Meta will avoid 'geopolitical tensions' or areas with unstable political conditions prone to sabotage. The areas are the Red Sea, South China Sea, Egypt, Marseille, Malacca Strait, and Singapore.

In fact, Meta already has 16 networks in various countries, but they still need a new cable network. The plan, this cable will be used to prioritize traffic to products and services developed by Meta.

Currently, the fiber optic underwater cable construction project is still in its early stages. Meta will reveal more detailed development plans, such as capacity, intended routes, and reasons for the cable being built personally, early next year.

It is not yet known exactly when this announcement will be made. However, according to sources familiar with the manufacture of this fiber optic cable, the project will take a long time, about five to ten years.

This submarine cable route has also been revealed. Meta will create a cable network from the east coast of the US to the west coast. The network will also pass through connecting points that already exist in India, South Africa, and Australia so that cable cut can be avoided.
