FTC Investigate Microsoft's Business On Alleged Antitrust Violations

JAKARTA The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating Microsoft over the alleged monopoly. The part investigated by the FTC is the big tech's soft and cloud license business.

The FTC is also investigating Microsoft's cybersecurity service business and Artificial Intelligence (AI) offerings. This investigation is confidential so that those with knowledge of the matter, and confirm to The Verge, cannot disclose their identities.

This US institution is interested in investigating how Microsoft combines productivity and security software with its cloud Azure. What's more, several security incidents have affected the product.

Apart from these reasons, the FTC wants to investigate the technology company because Microsoft is one of the main software suppliers for various technology belonging to government agencies in the US.

The results of the FTC investigation are not yet known. However, if the agency filed an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft, the company would be in the same position as decades ago.

Around the end of the 90s, the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed an antitrust lawsuit over the merger of Windows browsers and operating systems. The lawsuit is the company's last antitrust case in the US.

Over the past few years, the company has managed to escape antitrust surveillance in the US, unlike other technology companies, namely Amazon, Apple, Meta, and Google. However, some countries are still conducting antitrust investigations into Microsoft.
