JAKARTA - In fighting money laundering using crypto assets, Indonesian law enforcement officials will cooperate with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
US FBI representative Robert F. Lafferty said that there are two ways that will be carried out together with law enforcement officials in Indonesia in overcoming this problem, namely through collaboration and training.
"So, for collaboration, we currently have (team) FBI investigations in the United States that have ties to Indonesia, we will work together to help investigate, share information, share intelligence, and things like that," said Robert at the Indonesia Blockchain Week (IBW) 2024 event, on Tuesday, November 19 in Jakarta.
"Often, many US social media companies are in the US. So, the FBI can get records from them and we can share them with the Indonesian national police to assist them in the investigation," he added.

And for the second collaboration, this week Robert admitted that the FBI had organized a course in Bali for members of the Indonesian police regarding how to track cryptocurrency transactions.
Robert also emphasized that the FBI will provide two-year training for cyber investigators of the Indonesian National Police, of which there are around 50 cyber investigators who take part in the program.
"Where we teach them basic, medium and advanced training on various types of subjects related to cybercrime. That includes tracking cryptocurrencies," he continued.
Later at the end of this two-year program, the FBI will select selected Indonesian investigators who will be invited to work together to carry out further cyber investigations.
