Apple Preparing Variable Aperture Lens Camera for iPhone 18 Pro in 2026

JAKARTA - Apple is predicted to present major innovations in the iPhone 18 Pro line which is scheduled to launch in 2026. Based on the latest report from renowned technology analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 18 Pro will be equipped with a main camera with variable aperture lens technology, which is the first time in the history of iPhone devices.

This technology allows the camera lens to physically adjust the size of the aperture, so that it can control the amount of light entering the camera sensor. With this feature, users can take better quality pictures in low light conditions, while increasing control over the depth of field effect. This is similar to today's digital DSLR cameras.

Changes in the iPhone 17 Pro Max Line

The report also revealed that Apple will most likely skip this technology on the iPhone 17 Pro Max which is scheduled to be released in 2025. Initially, TheInformation media mentioned that at least one iPhone 17 model would be equipped with a variable aperture lens. However, Apple seems to have chosen to delay this innovation until more thorough testing is done, in order to ensure an optimal user experience.

According to Kuo, Apple has partnered with Sunny Optical as the main supplier for shutter technology, while Largan Precision will be the first supplier for variable aperture lenses. Luxshare is also said to be acting as an additional supplier.

"One of the major improvements for the iPhone 18 Pro is the main camera lens that uses variable aperture technology, providing a far superior photography experience for users," said Kuo.

This technology is expected to not only improve camera performance, but also strengthen Apple's position in the premium smartphone market by providing the best photography experience for its users. With a planned launch in 2026, the iPhone 18 Pro is already one of the most anticipated devices in the future.
