JAKARTA Following the rapid development of technology, NASA is one of the institutions that invests in Artificial Intelligence (AI). They fund AI technology to support space exploration.
Neurala is a NASA-funded AI developer to create software that can study and analyze the Martian field. After further development, it turns out that this technology can be used for manufacturing needs.
Massimiliano Versace, CEO and Founder of Neurala, explained that the software they developed could learn very quickly when paired with a small processor. Apparently, this AI-based technology is suitable for production monitoring tools.
"We carry out visual inspections with whatever components are already available, and can be implemented in a matter of minutes. In our market exploration, we realized that manufacturing spaces have the right need for this technology," Versace said, quoted from NASA's official website.
The AI-based software, which fits the manufacturing industry, was originally developed to navigate autonomous drones. The technology that won the STTR Phase II funding was able to make drones avoid multiple collisions while operating independently.

NASA is very supportive of software that can be integrated with drones and other technologies. What's more, when Neurala's software is integrated into small devices in drones, the problem of signal delays can be resolved in various locations.
Two functions in this one device model show that Neurala's technology has good performance and deserves funding. After realizing the huge potential of AI technology developed, Neurala is now focusing on developing software to monitor assembly lines.
"Computation on the spot is also an advantage in manufacturing, where the assembly line may have a hundred items passed each minute, making it difficult for visual inspections to control quality," NASA explained regarding the benefits of the software that Neurala is developing.
