Bitcoin Owners From Satoshi Nakamoto Age Start Selling Parts Of BTC

JAKARTA - When bitcoin prices experienced price fluctuations as has happened recently, a mysterious Bitcoin investor from Satoshi Nakamoto's era reportedly started to appear again. He last transacted in 2014, when the price of Bitcoin was still in the range of 374 dollars (around Rp5.79 million), now disbursing part of his assets again.

Based on Arkham Intelligence's report, the crypto data platform, in the past two months, the investor has routinely sent large amounts of Bitcoin to several crypto exchanges, including Kraken. Most recently, the investor shipped USD 630,000 worth of Bitcoin (approximately IDR 9.76 billion) to the exchange, increasing the total value of the assets it has sold to USD 5.5 million (approximately IDR 85.25 billion).

Sending Bitcoin to crypto exchanges generally indicates that asset holders intend to sell it. However, this investor move surprised many, considering he was one of the early Bitcoin holders to start mining in 2009, just five days after the Bitcoin network launched.

Most of the early Bitcoin asset holders, such as theuglyvoss brothers or founders of MicroStrategy, Michael Saylor, tend to defend their assets despite high volatility, in hopes that the price of Bitcoin will continue to skyrocket in the future. Saylor, for example, estimates Bitcoin could reach 13 million US dollars (around Rp. 201.5 billion) by 2045.

The investor's behavior also attracted attention because he actively moved his assets to several new wallets before making sales. He was inactive for almost 10 years, between 2014 and 2024, before re-emerging and disbursing his assets. Although this investor ownership is large, its value remains well below the wallet allegedly owned by Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, which is estimated to have 1.1 million Bitcoins worth around 72 billion US dollars (around Rp1,116 trillion).
