No Office In Indonesia Yet, Kominfo Dilema Wants To Block X Or Not

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said that Kominfo is still reviewing what steps they will take to platform X, which does not yet have a representative office in Indonesia.

Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics admitted that it had sent a letter to the social media company owned by Elon Musk to open its representative office in Indonesia, in order to comply with existing policies.

"That's being studied by the Director General," said Budi at the Public Discussion on Fighting Online Gambling, realizing a Safe Digital Financial Ecosystem Judi Pasti Rugi" Thursday, October 17. "Yes, we are studied the same, because we have to have a special treatment here."

According to Budi, this treatment was carried out because X already has approximately 25 million users in Indonesia. So that Kominfo will not immediately take steps like Brazil which blocks X in its country.

According to Budi, if the government blocks the platform immediately, Budi is worried that many people will disagree.

"If this is already 25 million users. Later you will make a fuss if you digitize. Right? Later we have to approach the X first," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Informatics Applications of Kominfo, Hokky Situngkir, also said that he still urged X to intervene in Indonesia, to follow the rules for electronic system operators (PSE) in Indonesia.

"He is not cooperative, yes. So we still urge them to build an office in Indonesia, so that they follow the rules for electronic system operators in Indonesia," added Hokky.

However, Hokky and Minister of Communication and Information Budi do not have a deadline when the social media platform, formerly called X, will be followed up.
