JAKARTA Amazon's Ring officially announced the launch of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based video search feature called "Smart Video Search," preceding a similar innovation from Google Nest. This feature allows Ring users to search for video recordings captured by their cameras using natural language commands. This innovation makes video search faster and more efficient compared to traditional methods.

This "Smart Video Search" feature allows users to use a simple description such as, "a mix on the backyard last night," "a red bicycle on the way in," or even "why does a trash can fall?" to find specific moments of their video recordings without having to scroll through the entire recording manually. With this technology, Amazon provides a practical solution for users who often have to review long records to find the events they are looking for.

In Amazon's official post, the company explains that this feature is one of the most advanced in the line of Ring artificial intelligence technology. The feature is supported by Ring IQ, a combination of AI Ring technology and their internal expertise. The core technology used in this feature is Visual Language Modeling (VLM), which serves to match descriptive text with images in the recording, so that search results can be found quickly and accurately.

The "Smart Video Search" feature is launched as part of public beta and will be widely available to all users in the near future as part of the Ring Home subscription service, which is priced at 19.99 US dollars (IDR 300 thousand) per month. This subscription package also includes 24-7 recording features and other improvements designed to improve Ring user experience.

While Amazon launched this feature earlier, Google is also preparing a similar innovation for Nest products through the integration of AI from Gemini. In a Google preview, the natural language-based search capability for Nest videos will begin testing later this year before being fully released in 2025. The feature will also allow Nest users to obtain an event description that is recorded automatically using the same state-of-the-art AI technology.

However, with the faster launch of the Amazon Ring, they managed to excel in the race to introduce advanced AI into smart home video searches. This feature is predicted to be a new standard in the smart home ecosystem, offering convenience for users who want to review their video footage without any difficulties.

The launch of Ring's "Smart Video Search" put Amazon at the forefront of AI-based video search innovation, surpassing Google Nest, which is still in a similar feature development stage. With competitive subscription prices and advanced search capabilities, the Ring is expected to attract more attention to consumers in the smart home market.
