JAKARTA - Elon Musk, owner of social media platform X, must pay an additional fine of US$1.9 million (Rp 7 billion) if he wants to resume operations in Brazil.
Reporting from TechCrunch on Saturday, September 28, Brazilian Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes issued an order allowing platform X to resume operations as long as it pays a fine of US$ 1.9 million. This fine is an addition to the previous US$ 3.4 million (IDR 12.4 billion) fine that has been imposed on X.
This year, X was involved in a legal dispute in Brazil following Brazil's efforts to block certain accounts accused of spreading false information regarding elections. In the end, X stopped its services in Brazil and was banned from operations in the country since late August.
The ban has made competing platforms, Bluesky, even more popular.
