JAKARTA - Snap Inc. is expanding its strategic partnership with Google Cloud in supporting a better generationative AI experience in My AI, Snapchat's AI-powered chatbot.

Through this expansion, Snap will take advantage of Gemini's ability to understand and operate various kinds of information such as text, audio, images, videos, and code, to offer more attractive and innovative features for the Snapchat community through My AI.

For example, with Gemini on the Vertex AI integrated into the app, users can ask My AI to translate road signs while traveling overseas, the company said in a statement on its official website Tuesday, September 24.

Since applying Gemini to Vertex AI to support My AI, the company behind the Snapchat app has seen more than 2.5 times the involvement in Snapping to My AI in the United States.

Snap first launched My AI in February 2023. When it was launched, the chatbot was supported by OpenAI's ChatGPT.

But now, the company is utilizing Google's generative AI model so that the chatbot can also process images, videos, and text.

"This partnership with Google Cloud strengthens all very important things in serving our community," Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said in a press release.

The announcement today builds on the basis of a partnership between Snap and Google Cloud that has been going on for more than 10 years.
