JAKARTA - Charles Hoskinson, founder of the Cardano blockchain platform, met Argentine President Javier Milei on October 19, 2024. The meeting discussed crypto's role in shaping the Argentine economy, particularly the potential adoption of blockchain technology and central bank digital assets (CBDC) by the country. The discussion is expected to pave the way for broader innovation and digital transformation in Argentina.

According to Crypto News information, this meeting took place at the Argentine Tech Forum technology forum, where Hoskinson discussed how blockchain technology could bring significant changes in economic and social systems. President Milei, known to have pro-crypto views, has also voiced his support for Cardano several times through social media.

This meeting strengthens the established relationship between Cardano and Argentina. Over the past few years, the Cardano Foundation has been active in the country, working with various parties to encourage blockchain adoption at the local level. In June 2024, Cardano signed a new agreement to expand blockchain technology integration in Argentina.

Not only Cardano, Bitcoin also has a long history in Argentina. In 2012, the big crypto company BitPay developed a Copay wallet in the country, making it one of the early bases for crypto technology adoption in Latin America.

Argentina is at the forefront of efforts to adopt blockchain technology in the education sector. In August 2024, the Buenos Aires City Education Ministry teamed up with the ETH Kipu Foundation to introduce Ethereum and blockchain technologies in the high school curriculum. This initiative aims to provide students with the skills needed to face future technology-based economies.

In addition, the program also includes the development of online programming language Solidity courses, which are used to create applications on the Ethereum network. The course will be available for 500 students aged 18 years and over, giving them the opportunity to become part of the Ethereum development community.

Under the leadership of President Milei, Argentina continues to take significant steps to become a major player in the crypto economy in Latin America. President Milei even removed crypto tax laws from a massive reform package known as Ley camnibus, in order to accelerate the process of economic reform.

This development is in line with Cardano's progress towards decentralized governance in the Voltaire era on its roadmap. Cardano recently made its first hard fork in the Voltaire era, introducing a community-run governance mechanism. In addition, other major updates, such as Leios upgrades, are expected to increase platform speed without compromising decentralization.
