ICEYE Will Provide Earth Monitoring Satellite Data For NASA

JAKARTA ICEYE AS, a radar satellite provider, received a Commercial Small Satellite Data Acquisition (CSDA) contract from NASA. This contract was received on Monday, September 9 with a five-year cooperation period.

This is not the first time ICEYE has received a CSDA contract. In 2020, ICEYE was also selected as a synthetic apertur radar data provider (SAR). The solutions provided by ICEYE will assist NASA's Earth Science Division in conducting scientific research and analysis.

Eric Jensen, CEO of US ICEYE, said the CSDA program was so valuable that his company felt lucky when it received a new contract from NASA. Jensen revealed that ICEYE will continue to support NASA in researching and exploring Earth.

"NASA researchers, scientists working together, and academic partners will enjoy wider access to the reliable and accurate radar data stream of the world's largest commercial SAR constellation. We look forward to enabling future scientific discoveries," Jensen said.

ICEYE explains that the SAR satellite is different from the observation satellite that is often used by space companies. The type of satellite that ICEYE develops is able to collect data during the day and night in various weather conditions.

SAR satellites can observe Earth through clouds that cover the field of view or when the Earth's atmosphere is experiencing challenging conditions. The thing that best distinguishes SAR satellites from ordinary observation satellites is millimeter accuracy in the measurement feature

"(SAR satellites can) produce data sets in large areas, such as glacial or desert areas, or targeted areas, such as forests or coastlines, with a high level of re-visitance optimizing scientific value and supporting innovative scientific research applications," ICEYE explained on its official website.
