Kaspersky Successfully Blocked Nearly 5 Million Online Threats In Indonesia In Q2 2024

JAKARTA - The Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) report for the second quarter of 2024 revealed that cyberattack efforts against Indonesian internet users from April-June 2024 fell 38.08 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Based on the report, Kaspersky managed to block 4,785,898 online threats during this time. This figure is down 38.08 percent compared to 7,729,320 detections last year.

This figure also decreased slightly (18.38 percent) compared to the January to March (Q1 2024) period this year with 5,863,955 online threat detections.

Overall, Kaspersky said that 18.4 percent of users were attacked by web-based threats during the Q2 2024 period. Thus, Indonesia is ranked 105th worldwide in terms of the dangers associated with web browsing.

In the midst of a growing cyber threat landscape, it is important for individuals to have good cyber hygiene in themselves. This is because attacks in cyberspace will continue to develop in terms of technicality, targets, and executions," said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia and Asian Developing Countries (Asia Emerging Countries) at Kaspersky.

Furthermore, the global cybersecurity company also showed that 21.9 percent or as many as 8,392,651 Indonesian users were attacked by local threats in April-June 2024.

This figure decreased by 35.52 percent compared to the same period last year (Q2 2023) with 13,015,667 detections. This data also places Indonesia in its 79th position globally.

Despite the decline, Yeo emphasized the importance for users to have answers to all possible scenarios, to be able to continue to live digital life with confidence.
