JAKARTA Microsoft will activate encryption on Windows devices automatically when rolling out the next update. This feature will be available via the Windows 11 update with version 24H2.

Reporting from How to Geek, the computer will be encrypted immediately after the Windows 11 update is downloaded. This system will encrypt every drive on the device and link the encryption key to the user's Microsoft account.

By launching this update, the data stored by the user will remain safe even if there are cybercriminals who manage to enter the drive into another computer. Usually, this method is done so that criminals can get unauthorized access.

In the 23H2 version of Windows 11 update, Microsoft has actually launched automatic encryption using BitLocker. However, there are further requirements to get this encryption, namely having a Hardware Security Test Interface (HSTI) and Modern Alert.

This means that this encryption is only automatically active on new computers. In version 24H2, Microsoft still uses BitLocker encryption, but with a slightly relaxed limit. Devices that do not have HSTI and Modern Alert will remain encrypted.

The update will begin rolling out in September for the Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions. The update also targets Windows 11 Home with an encryption sign in the default settings.
