Kaspersky Reveals Cyber Threat Landscape In 2024 And How To Mitigate

JAKARTA - The landscape of cybersecurity threats continues to grow along with the emergence of new actors, technology, and threats, which create uncertain worlds for organizations and communities with potential traps even when opening emails.

Kaspersky's security services detected more than 411,000 unique malware samples daily in 2024, which is an increase of more than 403,000 daily compared to 2023.

Kaspersky also stated that AI developments have increased the sophistication and threat vector of cyberattacks by 2024.

More than that, the global cybersecurity company also mentioned several other threats that may still be found frequently in 2024, including:

Ransomware as a service (RaaS)

The trend that applies is that cybercrime is often run as a business with the majority of detected cybersecurity incidents (71 percent) driven by financial factors.

Kaspersky saw a sharp increase in ransomware incidents which caused the percentage of users affected by ransomware to nearly double in 2021-2022.

Triangulation Operation

One of the largest potential threat vectors discovered by Kaspersky is a Triangulation Operation targeting iOS devices. Through an unknown malware that exploits hardware vulnerabilities inside Apple's CPU, it uses four 0-day vulnerabilities to infect target devices capable of costing more than $1 million on the black market to get them.

Supply chain attacks, closely linked to a sustainable system running on open source software, present another significant threat vector for 2024.
