Cook Team: Apple Spends A Lot Of Cost To Prepare Apple Intelligence

JAKARTA Apple Intelligence is a much-awaited Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation that was awaited after it was introduced in WWDC 2024. This AI technology will be released to several Apple devices, including the iPhone 16. The journey to prepare Apple Intelligence is not easy for the company because Apple has to invest a lot of things, from money to resources. This is done so that Apple Intelligence can be launched on time in the fall. Apple CEO Tim Cook told CNBC that his company spent a lot of money developing AI, including Apple Intelligence. Most of the funds were spent partnering with other companies. "From a data center point of view, as you know, we have our own hybrid approach. So we both have our own data centers and we partner with people. So that capital expenditure will go into partner finances, and we will pay the costs," Cook said. Cook did not explain how much Apple spent to focus on developing Apple Intelligence. "What is certain, this quarterly result shows an increase year-on-year in the amount of our spending on AI and Apple Intelligence."

Apart from spending a lot of money, Apple is also gathering more workforce to build this AI technology. They are not looking for new workers, but moving workers from other divisions to focus on Apple Intelligence. "What we've done is we've transferred a lot of people to AI who previously worked on other things," Cook said. Apple Intelligence will roll out to several operating systems (OSs) Apple developed, such as iOS 18, macOS 15, iPadOS 18, and others. Although this technology can be used for free, Apple Intelligence is not available across devices.
