Elgato Immediately Presents Stream Deck For IPad

JAKARTA - Elgato announced that a series of very popular Stream Deck accessories for Macs will be present on the iPad. The company invites app developers to participate in testing.

Previously, there was only one Stream Deck for Mac users who streamed videos, but now there are various Stream Deck devices. These tools are very useful devices for all Mac users and are coming soon, as well as for iPad users.

Stream Deck provides a series of hardware buttons starting from three buttons on the Stream Deck pedal to 32 buttons on the XL Deck Stream. Each button is actually a screen that allows users to do various things and add different icons or images to each button.

Elgato announced the Stream Deck Kit, but not the Stream Deck device itself. This is an open-source SDK being developed by Elgato so that developers can integrate Stream Deck support into their applications.

"Over the years, Stream Deck has been loved by desktop users for its flexibility and ease of use," the company said in a video. "That's why we're so excited to bring Stream Deck power to the iPad for the first time by introducing Stream Deck Kits and opening up a possible world for new users."

Integration with iPad

There is currently no public app. This announcement is an alpha release and an invitation to developers to join this project. Ultimately, Elgato's Deck Stream will connect to the USB-C iPad M1 port or later, and work like on Mac.

On Mac, the Elgato Stream Deck app runs in the background. However, the way iPadOS works doesn't allow this. Elgato plans for the iPad app to control Stream Deck.

That way, when you go from one app to another, the responsibility and control of a moving Stream Deck device with you. This means Stream Deck for iPad will have the ability to change all buttons and their functions according to the app you are using.

It's still unclear what will happen to Stream Deck when users are not in any app. It's also unclear what will happen if the user is in the app, but the app doesn't support the new API Stream Deck Kit.

Elgato will make an announcement about its public release at the end of 2024. Currently, they have published developer documentation and have also released an initial test version of the iPad Stream Connect controller application via TestFlight.
