Cloudflare Report: DDoS Becomes The Most Threat To Attacking Applications

Cloudflare, a leading cloud connectivity company, published the 2024 Application Security Status Report, which revealed that security teams are experiencing difficulties in tackling rising cyber risks.

The report highlights the number of threats stemming from software supply chain issues, the increasing number of attacks against distributed service (DDoS) and malicious bots, often surpassing resources owned by security teams.

The digital world is currently running with web and API applications. The application allows e-commerce sites to accept payments, as well as support the activities we do on mobile phones.

However, the more we rely on applications, the bigger the attack surface will be. And if left unprotected, exploited applications can result in business disruptions, financial losses, and important infrastructure damage.

The main finding from this report states that the number and volume of DDoS attacks (37.1 percent) are still the most widely used threat vectors to target web and API applications.

Industries that are often targeted include the world of Gaming and Gambling, IT and the Internet, Cryptocurrencies, Computer Software, as well as Marketing and Advertising.

In addition, other findings also state that a third (31.2 percent) of all traffic comes from bots, most of which (93 percent) have not been verified and have the potential to be dangerous.

The industries most frequently targeted are Manufacturing and Consumption Goods, Cryptocurrency, Security and Investigation, and the US Federal Government.
