JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, encourages stakeholders to explore affirmative policies to optimally utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

Because he considered, the development of AI technology will provide opportunities for Global South countries, including in Indonesia.

In addition, to bridge the digital gap, according to Nezar, the use of AI in the economic sector can also increase efficiency and business accuracy.

"We see that now there are a lot of AI adoptions carried out by corporations ranging from customer service to data processing," said Nezar in his presentation at the Indonesian Business Public Discussion: Building AI Governance Regulations for Indonesia: Substances and Projections, Wednesday, June 26.

However, there are still several challenges that need to be considered in terms of the development of AI technology by countries around the world.

Nezar reminded that there are obstacles faced, such as limited AI infrastructure, funding, and limited transfer of knowledge from AI development countries in Global South which trigger human resource capacity gaps.

"Transfer of knowledge in terms of how to enter further into the global supply chain in this production seems to be a challenge for the future so that we are not only a market for the development of this AI," he said.

Nevertheless, he is optimistic that Indonesia will be able to adapt and modify existing innovations such as AI technology, Indonesia can act as an AI developer country at the global level.

"This includes being a hub for the development of semi-conductors for AI technology at regional levels like Malaysia," he said.
