JAKARTA - OpenAI led by Sam Altman announced on Thursday, May 30 that they had stopped five operations of hidden influence or manipulation of public opinion, seeking to use their artificial intelligence (AI) model for "cheating activity" across the internet.
The artificial intelligence company revealed that threat actors used their AI model to produce short comments, long articles in various languages, as well as fake names and biodata for social media accounts over the past three months.
The campaign involved threat actors from Russia, China, Iran and Israel, focused on issues such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine, conflicts in Gaza, elections in India, politics in Europe and the United States, and others.
These fraudulent operations constitute "an attempt to manipulate public opinion or influence political outcomes," OpenAI said in a statement.
The report from the San Francisco-based company is the latest to raise concerns about the potential misuse of AI's gene technology, which can quickly and easily produce human-made text, images, and audio.
Microsoft-backed OpenAI announced on Tuesday May 28 that it formed a Security and Safety Committee to be led by board members, including CEO Sam Altman, as they began training their next AI model.

OpenAI stated that these operations not only use AI-generated material but also include manually written or memes copied from all over the internet.
Separately, Meta Platforms in its quarterly security report on Wednesday, May 29 said it had found content "possibly generated by AI" used outwitting on their Facebook and Instagram platforms, including comments praising Israel's handling of the war in Gaza published under posts from global news organizations and US lawmakers.
