JAKARTA - Starlink officially entered Indonesia. The Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers (APJII) even signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday, April 22.

From APJII's perspective, APJII Chairman Muhammad Arif said that this collaboration is clear evidence of APJII's commitment to continue to improve the quality of internet services in Indonesia.

"With various initiatives and cooperations carried out, APJII is determined to ensure that every step taken in the internet industry always provides benefits for its members and the Indonesian people as a whole," said Arif.

This collaboration is expected to run with mutual respect so that it can increase internet access throughout Indonesia, and the most important thing is not to kill existing local businesses.

"In an effort to improve the quality of internet access, especially in rural areas, APJII also encourages Starlink to collaborate in improving the quality of internet services," he added.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi has even revealed that Starlink will begin trials in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) in May.

Budi also assured that Starlink will not shut down local businesses, because the Indonesian government has prepared several conditions that Starlink must meet before officially operating as an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

These requirements are contained in attachment II of PP Number 5 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Risk-Based Business Licensing. One of the things that must be met by companies such as Starlink meets the requirements for Vsat. The conditions that apply are the same as those that organize telecommunications activities with and without cables.

"The important thing is that we can control it, the IP, we have to use the hub. Later it will be used as judol (online gambling), used for pornography again if the state cannot regulate it," said Budi some time ago.
