Although water in liquid form is difficult to find, the Curiosity robot is still exploring the planet.NASA, a Curiosity developer, recently stated that their rover has arrived in an area called Gediz Vallis. This area is visited not to search for water, but to look for evidence that water has flowed and filled Mars. Scientists believe that Mars is a very wet planet about billions of years ago. However, due to the mystery, water in liquid form disappeared forever from the surface of the Red Planet. By exploring Gediz Vallis, NASA wants Curiosity to find signs of when liquid water began to disappear and what caused it. NASA also deliberately chose Gediz Vallis because the region was believed to be a river in the past.

Gediz Vallis is a channel filled with rocks and large debris. Scientists want to know where it all comes from. The river may be the cause because its energy is strong enough to unify the rock on the ground. Before exploring the Gediz Vallis region, Curiosity spent several months climbing the foot of Mount Sharp. This 5-kilometer area is believed to have layers formed over millions of years amid the changing Martian climate.Curiosity's exploration at the foot of Mount Sharp managed to show that water seems to come and go in stages. By exploring Gediz Vallis, NASA hopes that their rover robot is able to perfect the information regarding the loss of water on Mars.
