JAKARTA – Some time ago, computer users with Windows systems realized that Microsoft Edge could steal data from other browsers. In fact, the user never gave permission.

This data transfer only occurs in the latest versions of Windows. Edge will import data from other browsers when users open the app. The data transferred is settings, cookies, browsing history, and more.

Apparently, the data theft carried out by the Edge system occurred due to a bug or software error. This error causes user data or information to be moved to the Edge application automatically without requiring permission.

Microsoft, via the Update Release Notes, said that they are continuing to develop Edge to improve user experience, security, and privacy. Hence, the brand released version 121.0.2277 some time ago.

The company acknowledged that Edge has features that can move data from other browsers. This feature should work with the user's permission so that Microsoft immediately fixes bugs and performance issues of the feature.

“Edge has a feature that provides the option to import browser data on every launch from another browser with the user's consent. The status of this feature may not be synchronized and displayed correctly on some devices. This has been fixed," Microsoft said.

Once the update is released, users who open Microsoft Edge will not get data from other browsers automatically. Users must activate the feature first so Edge can move data.
