JAKARTA - Google is launching a new capability on Google Maps, which will allow users to find out the name and price of food in a restaurant, based on photos uploaded by other customers.

If previously photos of food or drinks uploaded by customers on Google Maps of the restaurant would go to the menu tab, now several photos are now accompanied by cards at the bottom containing the name of the dish and explanations in the menu.

Based on VOI's monitoring, this feature does not appear to have rolled out widely. However, findings from 9to5Google say that you may also see prices and labels like Popular or Vegetarian.

In addition, you can also tap Suggest edits with the option (Edit, Incorrect, or Offensive dish name + Dish not served here) and See the menu to take you to a special tab.

Google Maps appears to use the description provided by users and object recognition to label dishes.

It should be noted that not all food photos have this menu card at this time. Maybe we still have to wait some time to see this feature roll out widely.
