JAKARTA - The Cyber Task Force (Subsatgas) has warned of the fraud mode or hacking using the APK malware. Before the 2024 Simultaneous Election.

It is not surprising that cybercriminals carry out their actions in the midst of the euphoria of the 2024 General Election. Because, several cyber experts also revealed that these cybercriminals often take advantage of a moment that is being discussed, to deceive people who are not careful.

"Currently, the pattern has been changed from wedding invitations, blank ticketing, and now PPS for the 2024 General Election is following the current momentum," wrote Subsatgas Cyber via text message on WhatsApp.

Even though the pattern has been changed from the wedding invitation to PPS for the 2024 General Election, the social engineering techniques that have been distributed are still the same, namely through the APK (Android Package Kit).

Where, when the victim installs the malicious app, the app will ask for access to your Shorts Message Service (SMS). If the victim gives a "permission" to access SMS, then the app will be able to read SMS, including SMS OTP m-banking, SMS OTP WhatsApp, and another SMS One Time Password (OTP) to the fraudster's telegram account.

After obtaining the OTP code from the victim's SMS, the criminals will be able to access the victim's M-banking account and make financial transactions, steal funds from the victim's account, and various other crimes.

Therefore, it is important to remain vigilant and download apps from its official store. Because, if it happens or you have installed a malicious application and gave it permission for access to your phone, then most likely your account has been successfully exploited.
