Montana Files An Appeal For Blocking TikTok Ban Bill

JAKARTA The Montana TikTok ban failed to take effect after a US district judge issued a Preliminary injunction. Therefore, TikTok can still be used in Montana to date.

Although the ban has been blocked, the Montana government is still trying to limit TikTok's access in its country by filing an appeal against US District Judge Donald Molloy's decision a few months ago.

On November 30, Molloy said that the draft law (RUU) on the ban on TikTok Montana had violated user constitutional rights. The bill has also exceeded state powers so Molloy had to stop it.

According to a Reuters report, the Montana government objected to the ban on district judges through a preliminary injunction. Therefore, they filed an appeal to the US Court of Appeal Region Nine on Tuesday, January 2.

For the appeal, TikTok and the US Court have not responded. However, the Chinese company will not like Montana's actions because they have tried to fight the TikTok ban bill.

The blocking of TikTok in Montana is actually based on the government's fear. They believe that TikTok collects user data to be submitted to Chinese intelligence, but TikTok has denied the allegations.

Even though TikTok has defended itself, the Montana government has still blocked user access to TikTok through the inauguration of the TikTok ban law in May last year. Supposedly, the ban took effect on Monday, January 1.

If district judges don't get in the way of Montana's actions, TikTok won't be able to operate freely until now. The reason is, Montana will charge around 10,000 US dollars or IDR 154 thousand per day to TikTok.
