Monitoring Space Weather, NASA Cooperates With Three US Government Institutions

JAKARTA The United States Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) regarding space weather. Apart from NASA, there are three other institutions that participated in filling the MoU.

The three institutions are the National Marine and Atmospheric Administration (NOOA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the United States Air Force (USSF).

These four institutions are represented by each representative. NASA was represented by Assistant Administrator of the Nicola Fox and NOAA Science Mission Directorate represented by Weather Service Administrator Ken Graham.

NASA did not explain who representatives from NSF and USSF were. They only explain the contents of the agreement and the collaborative system of the four institutions in monitoring and mitigating the threat of weather in space.

According to NASA's release, the four government agencies want to increase the country's readiness to face the weather in space. The reason is, the weather there often experiences changes due to the constant solar wind.

With periodic monitoring of space weather, the four agencies believe they can protect satellites to GPS signals from unwanted interference. This deal will also help a wide range of launches into space.

Meanwhile, NASA is determined to continue space weather research so that activities there are maximized, especially for the Artemis program. NASA will increase predictions and routine space weather readiness.
