Giroscope Problems Are Overcome, NASA's Hubble Telescope Is Back In Operation

JAKARTA The United States (NASA) Aeronautics and Space Agency announced that the Hubble Space Telescope, which has been suspended for a week, will resume operations.

Starting Friday, December 8, Hubble has been working as usual using three gyroscopes which are regulated in high precision mode. This needs to be done so that theHubble can work optimally.

Hubble has been turned off or entered safe mode twice during November. This safe mode first turned on on on Tuesday, November 19 due to problems with one of the gyroscopes.

NASA had reported that the Hubble gyroscope could not properly read the data, but this problem was solved because the telescope immediately recovered the day after. However, this stable Hubble situation did not last long.

A few days later, on November 21, this gyroscope had another problem. The operational team tried to fix the gyroscope. But they had difficulties until Hubble had to enter safe mode on November 23.

Luckily, this gyroscope is back to normal. The Hubble operational team will continue to monitor the performance of the gyroscope on the telescope. Hopefully, Hubble can continue operating until 2030.

Hubble has been operating for 33 years. Although launched in 1990, Hubble was serviced in 2009 to install six gyroscopes. Unfortunately, the three gyroscopes are no longer working so Hubble must rely on the rest of the gyroscope.
