JAKARTA - Swiss technology company Proton introduced a new photo backup feature on the Android Proton Drive app, which is planned to be launched globally in the next few days.

If you haven't backed your image into the cloud, keeping it on your phone makes it a risk of being lost forever due to accidental device damage, theft, or removal, said Andy Yen, Founder and CEO of Proton in his announcement.

With automatic photo backup, Proton Drive will encrypt your files and important metadata, such as location and file name, before syncing them to the Proton Drive account. From there, you can access it via iOS, Android, and web.

So, after activating photo backup and giving access to your photos, you'll start seeing them appear in Proton Drive.

Once your photo is fully backed up on your Drive account, you can access it easily anytime and anywhere. In addition, you can also disable other photo gallery synchronization to protect your privacy and save space on your Google Account.

In the mobile app, Proton Drive allows you to preview various types of files, including panorama, portraits, and video timelapse.

Interestingly, Proton Drive already allows you to tag files as offline available, so you can access those files even if they are off the network or an unstable internet connection.

"With the launch of photo backups, we have expanded this feature to include photos and videos that you back up to Proton Drive," Andy added.

Currently, the photo backup feature in the Proton Drive iOS application has been launched in beta, and is scheduled to be released to the public soon.

"Our next roadmap is to develop support for albums and automated categorization based on photo types, such as screenshots," concluded the CEO.
