JAKARTA - Meta Platforms, Facebook's parent company, announced on Wednesday, December 6 that they will add invisible watermarking to their text-to-image generation product, imagine with Meta AI chatbot, in the coming weeks to increase transparency.

The social media company launched artificial intelligence (AI)-enriched products for consumers, including bots that create photo-realistic images and smart glasses that answer questions, in late September.

"We aim to bring invisible watermarking to many of our products with AI-generated images in the future," Meta said in a blog post. They add that it is resistant to common image manipulations such as cropping, screenshots, and more.

The success of ChatGPT – a chatbot from OpenAI backed by Microsoft – has encouraged companies to leverage the power of large language models in creating AI products to attract new investors, drive innovation, retain existing customers, and attract new ones.

Meta created Meta AI using a custom model based on the powerful Llama 2 large language model, which was released for public commercial use in July.

The company is testing more than 20 new ways in which generative artificial intelligence can improve experiences across its social media platforms, including Instagram and WhatsApp.

The Menlo Park, California-based company is expanding access to imagine beyond chat, making it available in the US while also testing improved search capabilities across its products.
