JAKARTA - Amazon announced they will be working with SpaceX to launch an additional Project Kuiper internet satellite into the Earth Low Orbit (LEO).

Through its release, Saturday, December 2, Amazon said SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket would launch three of their satellites. The launch will begin in 2025, but Amazon did not specify the exact date of its launch.

The announcement of the cooperation between Amazon and SpaceX is actually quite surprising. The reason is, these two companies have the same mission, namely building a constellation of satellites at LEO to provide internet connectivity worldwide.

However, Amazon seems to realize that they don't deserve to be SpaceX's rival. Amazon still has to catch up with Starlink, SpaceX's satellite, which is currently 5,000 in orbit.

Please note that Amazon has only launched two test satellites so far. The launch, which was assisted by the United Launch Alliance (ULA), is said to be successful because its satellite internet network can operate well.

Amazon has established a satellite design and network architecture for Project Kuiper after going through the two launches. Currently, they are producing an unannounced number of satellites.

Amazon plans to launch more satellites in the first half of 2024, still with the help of ULA. Hopefully, Amazon can also start trials on early customers in the second half of 2024.
