JAKARTA - Huawei and Sharp announced the signing of a new long-term global patent cross-license agreement, covering Mobile Standards Essential Patents, including 4G and 5G.

"We are very pleased to be able to reach a new agreement with Sharp through friendly discussions," said Alan Fan, Head of Huawei's Intellectual Property Department in an official statement on the Huawei blog on Monday, November 27.

Fan said that this license represents mutual recognition of the intellectual property of the two standard contributors, encouraging standardization collaboration.

“We enjoy collaborating with Japanese and global colleagues in developing standards, and will continue to do so,” Fan further added.

Through this advanced technical standard, the two companies hope it will improve user experience, encourage competition, and reduce device and service costs.

“We are pleased to have reached a global patent cross-licensing agreement with Huawei under conditions that are fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory,” said Mototaka Taneya, Executive Managing Officer, Chief Technical Officer and Head of R&D, Sharp.

According to Taneya, this agreement reflects that both parties, both Huawei and Sharp, respect the high value of each other's intellectual property.
