Kaspersky: Files Containing Viruses Are the Main Cause of Local Cyber ​​Threats

JAKARTA - Kaspersky's latest report for the third quarter of 2023 in Indonesia shows that almost a third or 27.6 percent of Indonesian people have been targets of local cyber threats. This places Indonesia in 62nd place in the world.

In more detail, Kaspersky reported that it had detected and thwarted 12,939,096 local incidents on the computers of Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) participants in Indonesia.

When compared, this number decreased by 10.65 percent compared to the same period last year with a total of 14,481,642 detections.

This global cybersecurity company also stated that worms and file viruses were the main cause of most of these incidents.

This data shows how often users are attacked by malware that spreads via removable USB drives, CDs and DVDs, and other “offline” methods.

“While there was a slight decrease in the total number of local and web threats blocked by our solution in the last quarter in Indonesia, it is important to understand that there are a lot of new trends and technologies being adopted here,” said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Asia Southeast on Kaspersky in a statement received by VOI.

Such as AI technology, the Internet of things, and various other possibilities, which certainly come with vulnerabilities that require strong cyber defenses.

"We tend to focus on what's on the surface, even though the real and most important cyber threats are beneath the surface," added Yeo.

According to him, the approach in the world of cyber security must always be one step ahead. Therefore, Kaspersky encourages individuals, companies, government and all stakeholders in Indonesia to collaborate and continue to improve online defense capabilities against growing threats.

In addition, the report also found that 7,330,765 online threat detections were successfully blocked by Kaspersky solutions during the period July to September this year.
