JAKARTA - In early 2024, NASA will run an exciting project, in collaboration with Florida, Lonestar, and Isolate of Man startups, to deliver payloads to the Moon containing a "datacube."

What makes this project special is that the contents of this data cube will be authenticated using blockchain technology when it returns to Earth. The success of implementing this blockchain is expected to provide convincing and undisputed confirmation of the human landing on the Moon on NASA's manned Artemis 3 mission scheduled for 2025.

In November 2024, NASA will continue their Artemis mission with the launch of Artemis 2. The mission will carry four astronauts on a journey orbiting the Moon before returning to Earth.

Although there has been no landing on the Moon's surface on this mission, Artemis 2 has a key role in important preparation before the Artemis 3 mission, in which humans will be stationed back on the Moon.

Moon Storage System

One of the important aspects of this project is the development of a durable lunar storage system, using solar energy, and not requiring additional infrastructure.

In this experiment, a digital stamp will be made known as "digital mediating," and the storage of this digital stamp data will be done in the data cube on the Moon. Once used, blockchain technology will be used to verify the integrity and completeness of the data.

One of the interesting benefits of blockchain technology is its irreversible nature, which makes it ideal for data authentication. This means that in the future, astronauts of the Moon can use this data cube to prove their existence on the Moon, with all the interactions recorded inside the blockchain. It has the potential to tackle conspiracy theories surrounding the Moon landing.

In an interview with Science Focus, the Head of Innovation at the Digital Scale of Man highlighted the challenges NASA faces in denying claims that they had faked the Moon landing between 1969 and 1972.

While blockchain may not be able to completely eliminate the conspiracy theory, this technology will provide an undeniable note for future lunar exploration. With this project, blockchain technology can discover an important role in space exploration in the future.
