The Head Of APJII Admits That It Is Difficult To Arrange Fiber Cables Because Of Different Policies

JAKARTA - The incident of people wrapped in fiber optic cables that are chaotic in Indonesia is still a concern today. One of the victims, Sultan Rif'at Alfatih, suffered serious injuries which made it difficult for him to eat and talk.

Responding to the case, the General Chairperson of the Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers (APJII) Muhammad Arif Angga admitted that he had difficulty structuring fiber cables because of the policies of each region that were different.

"We always have a discourse (fiber cable management), but it's back again, the arrangement without the right regulations, it's also useless. So I'm afraid, the work will repeat itself," said Arif when met by the media crew at the Indonesia Internet Expo & Summit (IIXS) 2023 on Thursday, August 10 in Jakarta.

Arif admitted that he had discussed with ISP providers to organize the arrangement. But unfortunately, there is no common ground regarding policy.

"When we talk about fiber optic arrangements, it's been a long time, but we haven't got a common ground between providers and the government, especially local governments," added Arif.

So far, Arif added, the difficulties experienced by ISP providers in managing these cables always focus on the policies of each region that are different.

To overcome this problem, Arif hopes that in the future the government must have a higher regulation or policy than the Regional Regulation (Regional Regulations), so that the cable arrangement can be completed quickly.

"In my opinion, I always encourage even higher regulations, which can be followed by the regional regulation. Because the regional regulation should only be derived," said Arif.

"Because if each region has a regional regulation, it actually makes it difficult, so most of the regulations we have to follow, and tend to be different, right," he concluded.
