JAKARTA - The American Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) has just obtained three vehicles that will carry the Artemis II crew before heading to the Moon.

This electric-based, aka zero-emission vehicle, was specially designed by Canoo Technologies Inc, which can accommodate four astronauts in its spacecraft to get to the Orion spacecraft. The company obtained a contract in April 2022 to produce vehicles.

Not only them, supporting personnel including spacesuit technicians and special equipment can also be brought for a trip to Launch Pad 39B before the Artemis mission to the Moon.

"I'm sure everyone who sees this new vehicle will feel the same pride as I have for the next effort of the manned Artemis mission," said NASA's Artemis Launch Director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson in a statement, Monday, July 17.

All aspects of the design, ranging from the interior, exterior and color of the vehicle to the wheel well, were selected by the creative team which included the launch director of Artemis and other NASA representatives.

Previously, on NASA's Apollo and Space Shuttle Program missions, they used a vehicle dubbed the Astrovan to transport astronauts from the Neil A. Armstrong and the Checkout Building to the launch pad.

Ahead of Artemis II, the first manned mission under Artemis to send four astronauts around the Moon and take them home, the fleet will be used for astronaut training at the spaceport.

Flights for approximately 10 days will test NASA's basic human space exploration capabilities, Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion rockets for the first time with astronauts including the first woman landing and the first colored person on the Moon.
