JAKARTA - The Government of the United Kingdom announced on Sunday, 18 June that technology entrepreneur Ian Hogarth will lead their new task force which will examine the security risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI).
Last week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak identified London as a potential venue for global AI regulation, with the UK slated to host a meeting on AI risks later this year.
Hogarth, who was a co-founder of concert discovery service SongKick which was sold to Warner Music in 2017, was selected to lead the UK's AI Model Foundation Taskforce primarily tasked with conducting cutting-edge security research ahead of the meeting.

"In a bold vision, the Prime Minister has proposed that the UK accelerate the development of AI security, something that has received little attention to date despite the rapid growth of AI capabilities," Hogarth said in a statement, quoted by Reuters.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this important mission ahead of the first world meeting on AI Security in the UK," he said.

In April, the government allocated an initial £100 million ($100 million) to set up this task force, which will assess risks around AI and conduct research on security. The team will also assist with the development of international safeguards, such as shared security standards and infrastructure.
"The more advanced artificial intelligence is, the greater the opportunity to develop the economy and provide better public services," Sunak said in the statement.
"But with such enormous potential to change our future, it is our responsibility to ensure that AI is developed safely and responsibly," said the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
