The Fund For The Hacking Of The Atomic Wallet Of IDR 521.7 Billion Was Transferred To The North Korean Hacking Group Crypto Mixing

JAKARTA - Illegal funds obtained from the US$35 million Atomic Wallet hack (Rp521.7 billion) have been transferred to a crypto mixing service known to be the favorite of North Korea's most famous cyber hacking group.

On June 5, blockchain compliance analytics firm Elliptic reported that its Investigative Team had tracked funding from the $35 million Atomic Wallet hack into crypto mixing services

Elliptic claims that this mixing service was previously used to wash more than $100 million in crypto assets stolen by the Lazarus group from North Korea.

Elliptic did not specify the amount sent to the mixer, but noted that the loot was exchanged for Bitcoin before being hidden through the mixer.

The company also reports thatbur.io is likely a rebranded version of Blender.io, "Another mixer that is widely used to launder Lazarus group funds," and is the first mixer to be sanctioned by the United States Treasury Department.

Several accounts of Atomic Wallet users were hacked on June 3, resulting in losses of up to $35 million. However, the company considers the incident not too significant, saying that the attack only affected less than 1% of their monthly active users.

Atomic Wallet's head of marketing, Roland Srypte, told Cointelegraph that their team was "doing everything they could to get the funds back." "To make concrete plans, investigations must be completed first," said Sade.

"Of course, our team is very sad because we are very proud of our security. We are working hard all the time to solve it and get out of this crisis more strongly," he added.

He also advised the victim to track the illegal transfer and report it to the most popular crypto exchange, which "could prevent fraudsters from exchanging their funds."
