Reddit Tries New Chat Room Feature To Several Users

JAKARTA - Reddit announced it is testing new chat rooms similar to Discord, which allows users to exchange between browsing posts and chatting with other users about various topics.

While this feature may sound similar to the Live Chats Reddit feature, the company noted the Chat Room exists as a permanent room on the subreddit, not a short post.

Reddit provides moderators such as the ability to choose who can participate in chats, manage chat queues, and moderate messages reported in conversations.

"We take a mod-first approach based on all previous Chat learnings that we have. That means building by considering mod (cases, management, etc.) from the bottom up. Mod even gets a special mod channel to talk about mod things among fellow mods," the company wrote in its Reddit post, quoted Sunday, April 30.

Currently, Reddit is still in the pilot program stage to 25 subreddits, with a total of less than 100,000 users.

If you are interested in trying it, you can add a subreddit to the participation waiting list.

"This is just the beginning. We first build with our volunteer community in a small pilot program, and we will slowly expand other subreddits to try based on demand as the product continues to grow," he added.

Along with the announcement of the trial of this Chat Room feature, Reddit also announced that it would stop the Prediction feature on May 9.

For information, the Prediction feature is a fun way for Reddit users to compete with each other and get status by predicting the results of future events.

"This means that starting May 9, the ability to create new tournaments, participate in active tournaments, and see old tournaments will no longer be available and historic content will be removed," said Reddit.

And again, starting this week Reddit users on iOS and Android will see a new app interface with simplified and modernized designs.

This updated interface allows users to dive into relevant content more quickly.
