US Authorities Ask Tesla To Pull 158 Thousand Units Of Vehicles.

JAKARTA - The electric-powered automotive manufacturer from the United States, Tesla, has been asked to withdraw 158 thousand units of the Tesla Model S and Model X.

This request was made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the United States, regarding a media control unit (MCU) failure that caused the touch screen display to malfunction.

This can pose a safety driving risk, as the driver loses sight from the rear of the car. Similar requests have also been made by other automotive manufacturers.

Not all Model S and Model X, but limited to Model S production period 2012-2018 and Model X production period 2016-2018.

"Losing the touch screen display will also make Tesla lose the autopilot steering assistance feature, the loss of danger warnings to warnings related to the functions of the vehicle," NHTSA said as reported by Reuters.

"Missing system-related warnings, such as autopilot, increases the risk of an accident, because the driver is not aware of a malfunctioning system," NHTSA explained.

Apart from that, the failure of the touch screen also decreases the visibility of the driver in the middle of bad weather and increases the risk of accidents.

Tesla has not provided information regarding this. However, they must provide a response to NHTSA before 27 January. If you do not agree, Tesla must be able to provide a complete explanation to NHTSA along with the evidence.
