JAKARTA - WhatsApp seems to be working on increasing the option of additional time duration in the Disappearing Messages feature.

Now, users can set messages that disappear on WhatsApp after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days.

According to a WABetaInfo report, the company is working to add more detailed controls to the self-deleted message time in its desktop app version.

By offering more than a dozen durations to remove messages next to existing messages. Covering 1, 3, 6, and 12 hours, then 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 14, 30, 60, 180 days, and a maximum of one full year.

The one hour duration will be very helpful when sharing sensitive and personal content, where users themselves don't want the message to be on the recipient's device for too long.

In total, the option update is no less than 15 durations for Message Disappearing, which should give more control over privacy in the hands of WhatsApp users, as quoted by Android Police, Thursday, March 30.

The latest version of this feature is seen in WhatsApp's beta desktop clients, but longer durations are also under development for mobile apps.

For information, WhatsApp added support for Message Disappearing in November 2020. Even though the platform already has end-to-end encryption, it can add to other layers of security as it will self-destruct after the specified time.

Like most other features that WhatsApp is testing, no one knows when the new feature will be launched to the public. Given WhatsApp's track record, users can wait a few weeks or months.
