Not Just Access, But Internet Use Must Be Able To Improve The Taraf Of Human Life

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) is collaborating with the National Digital Literacy Movement (GNLD) of Cybercreation to hold a workshop to discuss issues faced by vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, women, and middle-aged people in accessing and using digital technology.

For information, based on the National Digital Literacy Index Survey in 2022, it shows that the digital literacy capacity of the Indonesian people is considered moderate at 3,54 out of 5.00.

The Ministry of Communication and Information collaborates with a number of communities and community groups to literacy the public about materials based on the 4 Main Pillars of Digital Literacy, namely digital skills, digital ethics, digital culture, and digital security.

Mei Lin Fung as the People-Centred Internet said the challenges faced by the community regarding internet access. For him, the important thing is not only to give internet access to the public, but the benefits of the internet for improving their standard of life.

Mei Lin added that regarding the role of digital literacy to form community resilience in solving their own problems, such as how people seek information correctly, obtain decent education, and so on.

"How can we be creative and produce new things, because most of them are on the internet selling things that already exist. I hope Indonesia can become a pioneer, because Indonesia has 17,000 islands," said Mei Lin.

Meanwhile, a representative from ICT Watch, Ida Ayu Prasasti, said that digital inclusiveness in terms of women, especially regarding the challenges of Indonesian women in the digital space, such as facing gender-based violence.

Furthermore, Indonesian women also have a gap with men, therefore friendly-training is needed for women.

There is also an income gap between men and women, this makes it difficult for women to get internet access, because it tends to prioritize (income) for daily life, "explained Ida.

Representative of the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), Dio Herdiawan Tobing explained about the limited internet access for education.

"As an organization, WBA hopes that all people can take a role in the digital transformation process, this is not only the responsibility of the government," he concluded.
