Snapchat Prevents Teens From Watching Sensitive Content By Presenting New Features

JAKARTA - Snapchat brings a new feature to the Family Center, namely filtering content that gives parents more control over what type of content their children can see.

The first feature, the new Content Control, offers the option to filter sensitive or suggestive content posted on Stories or Spotlight sections. This feature helps prevent teens from seeing anything parents deem inappropriate.

To enable this feature, parents can enable the Limit Sensitive Content filter at the Family Center. Once enabled, teens will no longer see the blocked content on Stories and Spotlight.

The filter will not have an impact on content shared in Chat, Snaps, and Search. In addition, Snapchat also published its content guide for the first time.

The content guide will provide more insight into creators on Stories and Spotlight about what types of posts might be recommended on its platform and what content is now considered sensitive under its community guides.

The platform said it had shared these guidelines with a set of content creators under the Snap Stars program and with its media partners, but now the company is making it available to everyone through pages on its website.

Companies have banned content such as hate content, terrorism, violent extremism, illegal activity, malicious, false or deceptive information, harassment and intimidation, threats of violence, and others appearing on their platform.

But now, these guidelines determine what content is under a variety of categories that will be considered sensitive. This is content that may qualify for recommendation, and is blocked from teenage users under new controls, or from others in apps based on their age, location, or personal preferences.

In addition to content controls, Snapchat said it is working to add tools to give parents more visibility and control around the use of new AI chatbots by teens.
